SCOPES MONKEY TRIAL.....A FRAUD

Amazing how the truth can blow one's mind!

The year 1925. The place Dayton, Tennessee. Population 1,800. Famous for strawberries. Economically depressed.

For seven days, it was the site of one of the world's most famous trials. The State of Tennessee v. John Thomas Scopes, aka Tennessee v. Scopes, aka the Scopes Monkey Trial. In a 2011 article, Time Magazine listed the Scopes trial as one of the '"Top Ten Trials That Shook The World."

The issue was whether evolution was consistent with the word of God as revealed in the Bible. In other words, whether Darwin's theory of man evolving from lower forms such as monkeys was not inconsistent with Biblical teachings.

John Scopes was a 24 year old high school teacher. He taught mathematics and physics and also served as football coach. One day he substituted for the biology teacher who was sick. 

The State of Tennessee controlled what books were to be used in classrooms. The biology text was Civic Biology by George William Hunter. One paragraph mentioned and briefly explained evolution. Scopes claimed he only taught biology once and that was when he substituted for a teacher who was out sick. He said he taught the paragraph in question that day.

Tennessee had a law known as the Butler Act. It prohibited the teaching of evolution. Yet it was the State that selected the civic biology book to be used as a text book in the biology class taught at Scopes' school.

Nevertheless, Scopes was indicted for violation of the Butler Act. The Judge directed the grand jury to indict Scopes, even though the proof was thin. The trial commanded immediate world wide attention. The attorneys involved were heavy weights. 

William Jennings Bryan was brought in for the prosecution. He had three times been a candidate for President of the United States. He served as Secretary of State. He was the embodiment of today's religious right in his time. He was without question anti-evolution. A crusader, he averaged 200 speeches a year, addressed State legislatures, wrote books and newspaper articles, wrote a nationwide syndicated column titled Weekly Bible Talks, and conducted a weekly Bible class attended each week by 5,000. All relative to the issue of anti-Darwinism, anti-evolution.

Defense attorney for Scopes was the nationally famous trial lawyer Clarence Darrow. An agnostic. His views religiously and in every other respect, diametrically opposed to those of Bryan. 

The trial took seven days. Little Dayton and the trial were front page news.  The world was interested. 

The New York Times ran the trial as front page news. Two hundred newspapers from the United States and two from London were represented in court each day. Telegraphs were the big thing of the time to swiftly convey information. One hundred sixty five thousand words per day were telegraphed over thousands of miles of telegraph wires hung specifically for that purpose.

Two cameramen filmed the trial. Then rushed to an airport to have the film flown out daily. The airport was built specifically for the purpose of getting the film out. Edward J. Larson won a Pulitzer Prize for history for his book Summer For The Gods, which was a tale of the trial.

The courtroom was small, hot and steamy. Bryan and Darrow fought like the big guns they were. The Judge appeared pro-Bible and beat up on Darrow constantly.

Bryan throughout the trial constantly made reference to the fact he was an expert on matters of the Bible. He thought he was. Darrow called Bryan as a witness and questioned him for two hours regarding the Bible. He made an ass out of Bryan.

After seven days, the jury was out only nine minutes. The jury found Scopes guilty. The Judge fined Scopes $100. The Judge then overturned the verdict based on a technicality. Scopes walked out of court a free man, never required to pay the fine.

Based on the jury verdict, Bryan technically won the trial. Worldwide, people viewed Darrow the winner..

Bryan died five days after the trial. His supporters considered him a martyr to the faith. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Bryan was held in such high esteem that $5 million  poured into a fund to erect a cottage in his memory in Dayton. The cottage was opened in 1930. Its purpose to ".....educate students to become servants of Christ to make a difference in today's world."

Now for the truth.

The trial was a fraud from day one. Even before.

Dayton civic and political leaders would meet daily in Robinson's Drug Store. They solved Dayton's problems and those of the rest of the world during those chats. The economy of Dayton was an ongoing concern. More businesses and more people were needed in Dayton.

The American Civil Liberties Union was concerned with the Butler Act and the evolution issue. The ACLU wanted to test the law. The ACLU advertised in Tennessee newspapers that they were ".....looking for a Tennessee teacher who is willing to accept our services in testing this law in the courts.....All we need.....is a willing client."

The Robinson Drug Store crew decided the ACLU offer and intended trial would be good for their community. They got a hold of 24 year old John Scopes. They said.....You are the one. He responded.....I only taught one Biology class as a substitute and I don't think it was the chapter concerning evolution. The town fathers convinced Scopes it made no difference. He agreed to  be the defendant.

The Judge was probably a party to all this. However, there is no firm evidence. Scopes falsely acknowledged at the start of the trial that he had taught the evolution chapter. It was for the jury to decide if he violated the Butler Act.

Prior to the trial, Scopes had to be indicted. Scopes personally prepared three students to falsely testify before the Grand Jury that he had taught evolution. He suborned perjury by getting the three students to testify falsely.

It is generally agreed that neither Bryan nor Darrow knew the case was a set up, a phony.

In June 2006 on  the eighty first anniversary of the trial, William T. Pelletieri wrote in The Woodside News.that "The Scopes Trial was a financially motivated hoax based on lies and perjury."

Though a hoax based on lies, the Scope trial continues to be taught in many of our schools nationwide as the fight between evolution and God's word as set forth in the Bible.

Even further, locally and nationally the trial in one fashion or another is honored. Paid homage. In 1979, the Rhea County Courthouse where the trial was conducted was renovated. A museum of the trial was erected in the basement. A commemorative plaque placed on the front lawn.

Due only to the trial, the National Register of Historic Places listed the Courthouse in 1972. Then in 1976, the Courthouse was decreed a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service.

The lie lives on. Amazing!

SOMETHING STINKS IN FERGUSON

Something stinks in Denmark as the saying goes. The same smell has engulfed Ferguson, Missouri. The odor is overwhelming.

There are so many disturbing incidents. The media has done an excellent job of reporting. Nevertheless, I wish to share my thoughts. Some may expose the undercurrents involved.

I am writing this column Saturday August 23. It will not be published till Wednesday August 27. In those few days, more may be revealed. Some purported facts may be determined to be falsehoods. Whatever, I can only write as matters exist today.

1.   The police failed to do their job from the beginning. Instead of pursuing the protesters, they should have directed their energies primarily against the looters. The looters and protesters were two different distinct groups. The looters were generally from outside the area and only concerned with stealing. They could have cared less about Brown's death. 

2.   The local prosecutor has failed grossly. There should have been an indictment within days. There was enough to present to a grand jury. A ten day delay has rightfully caused suspicion.

3.   There is a current in our country that has been developing for several years. The big guys, the Wall Streeters, have gotten away with stealing for several years. If the big guys can steal/loot, why can't the little guys? As the economy continues to fall apart for the 99 percent, the 99 percent are becoming more angry and frustrated. Expect more incidents of civil unrest elsewhere in the United States. There will be more and more reasons to protest and protests will occur.

4.   The military occupation of Ferguson is a preview of what is to come in other communities. Police will continue to use the military equipment they have been provided. Mentally, they are no longer police officers. They are soldiers.

5.   Police departments have received $4.3 billion worth of military equipment since 2006. In the last five years, Missouri has received from Homeland Security $69 million in equipment. Some of it had to be on the streets of Ferguson.

6.   The militarization of police has increased the size, power and use of SWAT teams. In 1980, there were 3,000 SWAT raids across the country. Now, 800,000 raids per year. Seventy nine per cent of the raids are into private homes. More than 100 American families are raided by SWAT teams every day. Ninety three percent of the raids do not involve a shooter, a hostage, or a barricade situation. Eighty percent of the raids take place in cities with populations of 25,000-50,000.

7.   The voice of the people is not heard in Washington or State capitals. Government for the people is waning. Corporate America and the mega wealthy control government. The little guy has next to no influence in what is happening. A majority of Americans are bypassed by government in the decision making process.

8.   Reporters and photographers being detained and arrested. In America! For shame! Ferguson is a perfect example of a local government not wanting the public to know what is going on.

9.   Ferguson's politicians are inept. The facts speak for themselves. From the Mayor to the Police Chief to most of the police officers themselves. Add bully to inept. The Governor is an idiot. He does not seem to have the brass testicles to do what should have been done. The prosecutor resembles a movie star. A pretty face. Nothing behind it  I do not care how many times the people have reelected him. He is definitely not playing fair in this matter.

10.  The following is funny and sad. The local Ferguson Congressman is William Lacy Clay. A Democrat. On 6/19/14, an amendment was on the House floor to limit the militarization of police. Clay voted against it. So did Pelosi and her hierarchy. Most Republicans also. The vote to defeat the amendment was overwhelming.

11.  The Police Chief waits 10-11 days following the incident to report the police officer involved had facial bruising and a fractured eye socket. I have to question the veracity. Even if the hospital records back the injuries up, I would like to know how and when he got them. Better a fractured eye socket than a murder indictment.

12.  No incident report for 10-11 days. Why not?  It is supposed to be prepared by the police officers involved immediately after the incident or within 24 hours. When the incident report was released, it said nothing. A couple of blanks filled in. No detail. Detail is the lifeline of an incident report.

13.  Last week Missouri State Senator Nasheed wanted to take into the public building housing the courts and records, a petition containing 70,000 names for the removal of the prosecutor. The Senator is a black woman. As she went to go under the yellow stripe posted to keep the public away, a spokesperson for the prosecutor tried to stop her. Nasheed is a gutsy woman. No way! She went storming through.

14.  The NRA benefits big time as a result of Ferguson. One of the cries of gun lovers is that it is necessary to keep weapons in the event the government requires confronting. Ferguson will be portrayed as that scenario.

Iraq has visited the streets of Ferguson.Where next? Key West, Syracuse, Topeka, San Diego?. Unfortunately, it is going to happen again. More racial incidents. More incidents provoked by use of military equipment.

Government cannot be depended upon to do whatever is necessary to make sure a Ferguson will nor reoccur. It will not.  It does not know how. It may not want to. All of the three would be my guess.

GLORY AND DISGRACE

The first year of Great Britain's participation in World War II was marked with glory and disgrace. The glory of the highest type. The disgrace the worst imaginable. 

Two battles were involved. The Air Battle for Britain and the Fall of Singapore.

The Air Battle for Britain is recognized as memorable. A high point in British history. Englishmen fighting bravely against overwhelming odds.

The air battle began on July 10, 1940 and ended on October 31, 1940. A mere three and a half months. Germany bombed England relentlessly during that time frame. Hitler was of the opinion he could bomb the Brits into submission. He ordered Britain to be bombed every day.

Initially, the bombing was of airfields, infrastructure, and factories. A month into the bombings, Hitler decided to terrorize the English people. He bombed the cities. London was especially targeted.

Germany had significantly more planes and experienced pilots than Britain. By the thousands. The Brits were defended by RAF volunteers. Primarily young men dedicated to defeating the German onslaught.

Hitler considered his Luftwaffe superior. Defeat never entered his mind. Defeated he and Germany were, however. By young fighter and bomber pilots . Ill experienced at the start of the battle. Seasoned warriors in less than four months. The young pilots went up to defend their country several times a day every day.

Hitler became so frustrated with his losses that he ordered the raids on England to stop on October 31. He was not going to lose one more plane over England. He ordered the Luftwaffe to Russia.

Churchill labeled the British victory in words that most everyone is familiar with to this day: "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few."

Glory can be fleeting. It was in the case of Great Britain. One year later, Singapore fell to the Japanese.

A loss in and of itself is not significant. It is the way one loses. Great Britain threw in the towel in Singapore basically without firing a bullet.

On February 15, 1942, the British commander surrendered the 130,000 troops under his command to the Japanese. The British commander was unaware at the time that the Japanese only had a few thousand troops on the island and the Japanese were very low on ammunition.

The British commander gave up Singapore without a fight. A battle never occurred. That is why the time in Singapore's history is referred to as the Fall of Singapore, rather than the Battle for Singapore. It marked the end of the British Empire. It is known in history as the day the Empire died. The day the British empire fell apart.

Why no battle? A number of reasons.

The 130,000 troops under British command consisted of British, Indian and Australian troops. None wanted to fight.

The British were living in another world. Even their military prowess. It was Victorian in nature. From another time. The Brits were also overconfident. They considered themselves superior to the little yellow man. One prominent English civil servant in Singapore wanted to know whether it would take more than a day to throw the little men off the island. The soldiers themselves were overconfident. They were of the opinion the Japanese would never make it to shore. They would die in the water..

Great Britain had poured a ton of money in 1938 into fortifying and upgrading Singapore's defenses. No one would be able to penetrate or take Singapore. The story is similar to the French Marginal Line. Singapore was also a large naval base.

The Brits expected an attack from the sea. The Japanese did not come in by the sea. They came in through the back door. The Malayan Peninsula. Through the streaming jungles on foot. No heavy motorized equipment. They stole bicycles to move forward when they reached Singapore. The Japanese were ruthless along the way. They took no prisoners. 

There were some approaching Japanese vessels. Two of Britain's best ships went out to meet and destroy the enemy two days before Singapore surrendered. The battleship Prince of Wales and cruiser Repulse. Both were sunk.

Britain was still plagued by World War I where it lost a generation of its young men. Britain was reluctant to lose more. It is assumed this affected the mentality of the British generals, also.

Forty thousand Indian troops were a part of the 130,000 under British command. India had been clashing with Britain for years for independence. Britain would not bend an inch to give them any type independence.

The Indians refused to fight. In fact after the surrender, 30,000 joined the Japanese forces and fought with them for the rest of the war. Some of them became guards at the POW camp established to keep the British troops.

The Australians were not much better. One third of the Australians deserted before the Japanese even set foot on Singapore. The Australian commander, Lt. General Gordon Bennett, did not desert. He did leave his men, however. To avoid capture, he hopped a small boat with a couple of other officers and made his way to Australia.

The Australians were upset because the Brits did not treat them equals. They were white as the British were. However, the British considered and treated the Australians as lower type whites.

The British were fond of social clubs. Places where British were welcome.  One was Raffles. The Australians were not welcome at the British social clubs. They were forced to socialize at Indian and Chinese clubs..

Churchill and the British cabinet in several wires ordered the British commanders on Singapore to stand and fight to the death. The words went unheeded. The British commander surrendered with out even firing a shot.

The British Empire was no more.

ABORTION, STERILIZATION, CONTRACEPTION, FEMALE DISCRIMINATION.....TOOLS FOR POPULATION CONTROL

You will find the contents of this column hard to believe.

The topic involves population control. An innocent term on its face. Fearful in its application.

The United States has a federal agency titled Office of Population Affairs. It is part of the Department of Health and Human Services. Population Affairs is misleading. The agency name would be more honorably represented were it Office of Population Control.

It is the lead U.S. agency for family planning, reproductive health care services and research. Its specified purpose is to control or reduce the size of the U.S. population.

The agency was created by and has been funded by Congress since 1970.

Under the guise of family planning, the agency is pro-abortion, pro-sterilization, and pro-contraception. In pursuit of stemming population growth, the agency is concerned and plans for the day when Mother Earth will not be able to support and feed a too large population.

The agency has a Family Planning Clinic. One of its purposes is to rid women of unintended pregnancies.

The agency program is wrought with female discrimination. It requires parents to exercise reproductive responsibility. No more than a legally permitted number of children. One or two, as the law allows.

Forced sterilization is invoked at the time the legal number of children has been arrived at. The woman would be sterilized immediately following the birth of the prescribed number. It is recognized a man could obtain a vasectomy. A vasectomy is economically cheaper than female sterilization. However, the program also recognizes men are generally reluctant to engage in such procedures. As opposed to women who take them in stride.

Another form of suggested sterilization could occur at female puberty. A long term sterilizing capsule would be placed under a girl's skin. It would remain until official permission was obtained to conceive a child.

Some high ranking scientists support most if not all of what has been reported thus far.

A top scientific adviser to President Obama is John P. Holdren. He recommends limiting population growth by breaking down the world into geographical areas. Each area would be permitted only a specified number of births/people.

Holdren believes "compulsory population-control laws", including abortion, could be Constitutionally sustained if overpopulation became so severe as to endanger society. 

John Ehrlich was one of Bush 2's scientific advisers. He believed that only that number of births which could be sustained by the Earth should be permitted. His birth control position was best exemplified when he said....."Nobody, in my view, has the right to have 12 children or even 3, unless the second pregnancy is twins."

I became intrigued with the issue as developed herein after reading an excellent piece by the investigative reporter Michael Snyder. I have mentioned him before. He is top shelf. A guest post of his regarding the Office of Population Affairs appeared at Blacklistednews.com on 8/31/14. The article started me digging.

There is not much on the issue in simple easy to understand English. Statutory and regulatory language abounds. What is supposedly straight forward information in easy to understand English generally clouds or says nothing. The work of the agency is clothed in flowery language.

I am confused. We have a major continuing war in our country over the issue of abortion. The conservatives in the House of Representatives are generally anti-abortion.  Contraception has become an issue via Obamacare and two recent Supreme Court decisions. Female discrimination re their bodies and sexual rights is ongoing. Merely recall the comments of some Congressmen over the past several years. Sterilization is not an up front issue.....yet.

I can not understand how Congressmen can fight like hell in opposition to funding for abortions and contraception, and at the same time vote yearly to fund the Office of Population Affairs. It takes money to run the agency. All budgetary items begin with favorable passage by the House of Representatives.

A startling inconsistency exists. No to  all abortion and certain contraception fundings. Yes to funding an agency that supports pro-abortion, pro-sterilization and pro-contraception activities.

Considerable dollars are involved. The budget for the Office of Population Affairs from 2011-2014 was $280 million to $298 million. 

What's going on?

I suspect most Congressmen in many instances do not know what they are voting for. Probably neither they nor their staffs have read the legislation. On the other hand, if read perhaps they do not understand what they are reading. I reference you to my comment re flowery language. Whatever, the positions are grossly in opposition. 

The United Nations has an organization known as the United Nations Population Fund. The Fund supports government programs which promote forced abortions and coercive sterilizations. Presidents Reagan, Bush 1 and Bush 2 refused to permit American dollars to support the Fund. Bush 2 refused even after Congress had allocated the funds.

President Obama took office in January 2009. That same month, he permitted the funding to be restored. It was represented at the time that the United States had joined with 180 other donor nations to ".....reduce poverty, improve the health of women and children, prevent HIV/AIDS and provide family planning assistance  to women in 154 countries."

Why? Did Obama's people inadvertently mis-inform him? Did they read the refunding proviso? Did they understand? Did the issue of a United Nation funding which 154 other countries supported look like a good thing to join in on without comprehending the true impact of the Fund's work? Or..... perhaps the President knew what he was doing.

I don't know and it concerns me. Just as the activities of the Office of Population Affairs concern me.

BLACK JESUS

Controversy abounds. It is going to get more vocal and louder.

Black Jesus debuts as a new television show Thursday August 7. Christian organizations are already up in arms.  The cries.....twisted, insulting, disgusting, blasphemous. To others.....awesome.

The show will appear on a cable television channel I never even knew existed. Adult Swim. It shares channel space with Cartoon Network. Both are owned by Turner Broadcasting which is part of Time Warner. Both channels are available in 98 million pay TV households in the United States.

Jesus is an African-American living in a poor run down neighborhood in Compton, California. The neighborhood's residents are primarily persons of color. Jesus has a small group of immediate followers. He preaches to the crowds. His language is that of the streets. F--k is in common use. The overall language of the show is tough.

One of Jesus' followers describes him in the following fashion.....He ain't Jesus Christ, he's just some crazy dude who thinks he's Jesus.

The show's intent is to portray a Black Jesus living in the modern world. The show is described as comic. It's purpose fun. Producers claim the show does not mock Jesus. 

Similarities appear between Black Jesus and Jesus..

Both are relatively poor. Both have followers. One the apostles, the other a group of neighborhood friends. Jesus spoke to the multitudes in the vernacular of the day, in the street language of the time. Black Jesus speaks in the vernacular of a modern day ghetto neighborhood.

Black Jesus and Jesus dress in the same type attire. Robes.

Black Jesus is black. No question about it. African-American all the way! Jesus may have been dark skinned. Though most paintings portray Jesus as white, there are works that  paint him tan or colored. A well respected historian has described Jesus' face as dark brown and sun tanned. Sinewy in appearance.

Is the show insulting? Does it mock my God? I am Catholic. I am not sure. 

If the show were about Muhammad, I am confident a jihad would follow. However the chance of something like a jihad occurring are slim to none. The reason simple. Producers would never run a show similar to Black Jesus if the lead character was of the Muslim faith. Or, the Jewish faith for that matter..

Why then, Jesus?
